Ihave had the privilege to have been an Infant School Librarian for 5 years on a voluntary basis in a school in North Yorkshire ,running a service for a designated library literacy time involving whole class and parents/carers.Are there any more of this rare breed out there? The scheme operates in highly successsful manner- 6-7000 issues per year ,high attendance record and beyond a doubt percentage increase contributions to literacy levels in the school.Have other Infant/Primary school librarians similar success stories? Have others best practice ideas in the current plight of low level literacy achievements of school leavers?

The recent report "Information behavour of the researchers of the future" (see my blog at http://sintoblog.blogspot.com/2008/01/battle-lines.html) shows that students entering FE and HE have very poor information literacy skills. This topic has been neglected in primary and secondary schools and now the higher education sector is suffering the consequences. School librarians should be at the forefont of this.
