I have listened to the CIBER Information behaviour of the reseacher of the future.Having been party for 5 years to my childrens Infant school Library /Literacy programme I now find myself being paid for 2 hours during library time in the juinior dept. next door.Yes its for story time but the professional in me cant help but introduce IL skills for these year 3/4`s.Not knowing of any guidelines I have instinctively continued with the childrens enthusiasm for their newly found reading skills having sessions on different styles of books-flip/popups for them to read aloud, use clear voices and develop presentation skills.Having access to weekly plans for national curriculum lessons I feel much can be adopted for IL standards for objectives/success criteria/independant/whole class work and learning outcomes.I wonder if Ofsted are persuing this for School Libraries?I feel keeping the childrens natural enjoyment of handling literature is important before tackling Dewey.Next few library sessions include collections-toy/listening with appropiate props and aeroplanes as a theme for introducing levels of information.I believe it important to keep childrens curiosity at this age going and I believe a disciplined continuous approach to be one key for effective learning in the progressive assimilation of IL skills Meanwhile we continue to enjoy N.Hiltons Beaver Towers.From the Good Fairy Librarian!
